1. El Arco de la Victoria Erected in 1956, this arch was designed to celebrate the Nationalist victory in the 1936-39 Spanish Civil War. General Franco would have passed by it each time he came to Madrid from his home in the Palacio de El Pardo. This was a symbol of Franco’s power as dictator of Spain. He ruled from 1939 until 1975 when he died. “All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him, for dominion belongs to the Lord and he rules over the nations.” Psalm 22:27-28 Please pray that this nation will “turn to the Lord” and that “all the families of” Madrid would “bow down before him, for dominion belongs to the Lord and he rules over the nations.” “His kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom, and all rulers will worship and obey him.” Daniel 7:27 Please pray that the leaders of Spain would know the Lord personally. Pray that this verse will come true here in Spain: “… all rulers will worship and obey him.” “And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ” Colossians 4:3 Please pray for opportunities and “open doors” to share the message of Christ with the people here in Spain. Pray that there would be an “open door” for the Gospel as great and wide open as the arch standing in front of you. |

2. El Faro de Moncloa (observation tower) Opened in 1992, the tower measures 300 feet and has some of the best views of Madrid. “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary but what is unseen is eternal.” II Corinthians 4:18 “Look
at the nations and watch-and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something
in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.”
“May God be gracious
to us and bless us and make his face shine upon us, that your ways may
be known on the earth, your salvation among all nations. May the peoples
praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you. May the nations be
glad and sing for joy, for you rule the peoples justly and guide the nations
of the earth. May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise
you. Then the land will yield its harvest, and God, our God, will bless
us. God will bless us, and all the ends of the earth will fear him.”
Psalm 67 |

3. Pabellón de Gobierno U.C.M. (administration building) This is one of the administration buildings for the university. “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.” Luke 10:2 Please pray for the university administrators who work in this building and the students who attend their university. Pray that students, professors, and administrators alike will be reaped from the harvest and will become Christ-centered laborers themselves. Ask that God will raise up Spaniards who have a passion for the saving and life-transforming message of Jesus Christ. Pray that these Spaniards may become “workers” for the Lord to reach their fellow countrymen. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10 Pray that Spanish students will know what it means to “have life and have it to the full.” “This is the covenant I will make with the House of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, ‘know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest,” declares the Lord. “For I will forgive their wickedness and remember their sins no more.” Jeremiah 31:33-34 Please pray that they will allow the Lord to “put (his) law in their minds and write it on their hearts.” Also, that they will know the freedom that comes in knowing that God “will forgive their wickedness and remember their sins no more.” |

| 4. Cristo Rey De Argüelles (Catholic Church) “Of what value is an idol, since a man has carved it? Or an image that teaches lies? For he who makes it trusts in his own creation; he makes idols that cannot speak.” Habakkuk 2:18 “Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the Lord made the heavens." Psalm 96:3-5 “Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." Philippians 2:9-10 Please pray that the students and the people of Madrid would rid
themselves of all the false idols that entangle them. Pray that they would
find the Lord who is capable of “marvelous deeds” and who
“made the heavens.” |

| 5. Explore on your own Many who live in this city have “hardened their hearts” to the gospel. As you will notice all of the following verses focus on the heart. We know that “Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” As you walk this neighborhood please focus on the condition of the hearts of the people all around you. You may use the following verses as your guide. “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.” Ezekiel 36:26-27 “For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.” Matthew 13:15 “Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” I Samuel 16:7 “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” Deuteronomy 6:5 “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” Matthew 15:8 “I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you” Ephesians 1:18 “All a man’s ways seem right to him, but the Lord weighs the heart.” Proverbs 21:2Please ask that hearts that are “calloused” and “are far from” God would become ones that beat for the Lord’s purposes. Ask that “hearts of stone” will be replaced with a “new heart and a new spirit” so that they would be moved to follow His decrees and laws. |

6. Moncloa metro (subway) stop “Do not be afraid; keep on speaking,
do not be silent. For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and
harm you, because I have many people in this city.” “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Luke 4:18 “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12 Pray that God will raise up students and bring them into His Kingdom. Ask that they will “not be afraid” and “keep on speaking.” Petition that a revival will happen among student body and the people in this neighborhood. Pray that God will multiply the number of “people he has in this city.” Pray that the believers here will be encouraged and that they will be bold witnesses for the Lord. Ask that this statement will ring true for Madrid: “The Lord their God will save them on that day as the flock of His people. They will sparkle in His land like jewels in a crown. How attractive and beautiful they will be!” Zechariah 9:16-17 |
