Prayerwalking the Campus of
“La Complutense” (The University of Madrid)

La Universidad de La Complutense (also known in the U.S. as The University of Madrid) is located on the west side of Madrid. With enrollment figures having reached 120,000 students in the past (now reduced to a mere 72,000 or so), it is the largest university in Spain and possibly all of Europe. SyncroNations’ major focus in reaching students for Christ is the campus of La Complutense, and we invite you to join us in prayerwalking this institution!

1. Statue of Los Portadores de la Antorcha
(The Carriers of the Torch)

As we stand at this statue, in the heart of the Complutense campus, we are reminded of the Scripture from Hebrews 12:1-3:

“Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance, and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of faith, who for the joy set before Him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you may not grow weary and lose heart.”

Please pray right now for God’s guidance as you pray for this campus, as you continue to carry the torch of the Gospel of Good News that these university students may come to know Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith, to know Him who loved them so much that He endured the cross for them. Pray for boldness and faithfulness of believers on this campus to share the Gospel message with university students. Pray for missionaries from various Great Commission Christian groups to build relationships with these students that Christ may be made known on this campus.

2. Medical School complex
As we walk among these buildings (orthodontics, nursing, medicine, pharmacy), pray for the great healer to work a spiritual healing among these students, to help them recognize the sickness of sin in their lives and come humbly before the great healer of their soul and to know spiritual wholeness.

3. Communication and Information Building
As we stand before this building, pray for the dissemination of the Scripture, God’s Word, to these students. Pray for channels of communication to be opened to these students, for relationships to be built with believers. That they may seek to know the Lord and Savior of the world, to have a personal relationship with Him. Pray for seeker groups/discussion groups to spring up all over this campus, in the cafeterias, and in the student residences as well.

Pray also for our English discussion groups as we seek to begin them in the cafeterias of each of the “facultades” or “departments/schools” on campus. Pray for students to participate on a regular basis and for these students to have seeking and sensitive hearts, and for relationships to grow beyond the English discussion groups to become real friendships and for us to have the opportunity to share the source of our life and joy with these students, that they may know our Lord and Savior personally.

4. Botanic Garden

As we walk past this Botanic Garden, and you see the green trees and plants, pray Psalm 1:3:

“How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. And he will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers.”

Pray for these students to gladly receive the living water of Christ, to not walk in their sin any longer, to delight in the Lord, to grow in His word and become the firm, faithful strong believers who will lead their generation in knowing Christ and living for Him. For they are the future generation of leaders of Madrid, Spain, Europe and the world. With the Lord as their God, they can change the face of Europe for Christ!

5. Filología
As we stand before this building (Filología) where all the languages are taught (English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Greek, Hebrew, Arabic), pray that God will open the doors for His word to be made known in this building.

This is the place where students desire to study English, and English/Spanish language exchanges are a wonderful God-given opportunity to build relationships that lead to opportunities to share Christ.

Pray for these language exchanges, relationships and sharing of Christ – not just in these buildings but out in the community, in the student residents, in coffee shops, in the homes of students.

  6. Return walk toward metro
As we walk back toward the metro, pray for the study abroad students who will be coming to this university to not just study Spanish or other subjects, but will be concertedly involved in missions. They will be a vital part of the university outreach team, building relationships with students, starting discussion groups that will grow into Bible studies of new believers, and eventually churches.

Pray for God’s wisdom, guidance and direction as we seek to continue and expand upon this study abroad program, known as SyncroNations. Pray for BCM directors and state convention university leaders to catch the vision for reaching students in Spain, through their students coming to Madrid to study language and at the same time being “On Mission With God” to reach their fellow university students here.

Pray for those Persons of Peace, and Persons of Goodwill, who are necessary for this program to grow and develop.

Pray for us as a team to diligently follow God’s leading and be attentive to His voice as we seek to develop this program for reaching university students.

7. Agriculture Department
As we finish up our prayerwalk here at the agriculture building, and as we look at these farming tools and implements, let us pray fervently God’s word from John 4: 35 and Matthew 9:37-38:

“Behold I say to you, lift up your eyes, and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest."

“Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore, beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.”

  CONCLUSION:
From the human perspective, this looks like an impossible task. But the Lord has given me the following Scripture from Ephesians 3:20 since I have been here in Madrid, and I pass it on to you. Let us pray it together, in unity of spirit and voice:

“Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory to the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.”
