Prayerwalking the Argüelles Neighborhood

On this prayerwalk, you will be praying for important locations where Spanish university students shop and spend time with friends. While you are only virtually exploring these streets via the Internet, directions are still included to help you imagine where you would go and what you would see if you were physically prayerwalking this neighborhood.

1. Metro: Bilbao
We begin at the metro station of Bilbao. This is a popular place for students to meet each other.

As you view these photos, please pray that students would long for Jesus while they are walking these streets. Petition that the following verse would be the desire of their hearts:

"At night my soul longs for You, indeed my Spirit within me seeks You diligently. For when the earth experiences your judgments the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness." Isaiah 26:9

2. Giangrossi Coffee and Ice Cream
Leaving the Bilbao metro, walk to Calle Carranza (Carranza Street). Turn left on this street toward Metro: Argüelles. After you pass San Bernardo street, Carranza becomes Alberto Aguilera. You will see a coffee and ice cream shop called Giangrossi on your left.

Every night, university students come to Giangrossi to utilize their free Internet connection and enjoy a cup of coffee. Please pray that spiritual conversations between believers and their non-believing friends would take place in this location.

"As the deer pants for the water, so my soul pants for You O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the Living God; when shall I come and appear before God?" Psalm 42:1-2

3. The University of Comillas
Please continue on Alberto Aguilera street until you reach a red brick school known as Comillas. Comillas is a private university, home to about 6,300 students. Although the SyncroNations team has met some students and faculty here, no English discussion group has been able to meet consistently.

The English conversation groups serve as key avenues to connect with students. Please petition for a discussion group to begin this year among the Comillas students, with the help of believing study abroads.

"If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." John 8:32

4. Metro: Argüelles
Follow this road until you reach Metro: Argüelles. When you reach the metro, turn left on Calle Princesa. As you walk past the department stores Zara and El Corte Inglés, you will notice many students shopping or talking with their friends.

Please pray for the students you see, that a desire to know Christ would burn in their hearts.

"Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being, and in the hidden part You will make me know wisdom." Psalm 51:6

5. Plaza de España
Continue on Calle Princesa until you see a large fountain on your right. Cross the street in the direction of the fountain. This area is the Plaza de España, with its beautiful flowers and statues of Spain’s famous Don Quijote and Sancho Panza characters.

Every afternoon, you can find several students eating their lunch, taking a nap, and enjoying the day at this plaza. Please walk around the plaza and petition that students’ spiritual blindness would be cured and that they would see Jesus.

In the Book of John the blind man answered, "One thing I do know; I was blind, and now I can see!" Read John 9:13-30.

6. Calle Espíritu Santo (Holy Spirit Street)
From Plaza de España, cross the road onto Calle Los Reyes. Then turn left unto Calle San Bernardo. Next, turn right unto Calle Espíritu Santo. As you are walking down this street, you will see coffeehouses, interesting bars and a tremendous amount of graffiti.

Pray for the students whose lives are represented by the graffiti on the walls. Pray for the presence of the Holy Spirit to touch the lives of students that walk this street and around the area.

"Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near." Isaiah 55:6

7. Metro: Tribunal and Calle Fuencarral
From Espíritu Santo street, turn left onto Calle Corredera Alta de San Pablo. Finally, turn right unto Calle Ferrer. This connects to Calle Fuencarral, and you will see the Tribunal metro station. Tribunal is another popular place for students to meet before going out to nearby bars and dance clubs.

Petition for the SyncroNations team and the students in whose lives they are involved. Pray for spiritual conversations to take place through developing friendships, that their speech would be "with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that we will know how to respond to each person." Colossians 4:6
